Indigo Fabrics

I discovered Indigo Fabrics at the Dallas Quilt Show yesterday. They are made in South Africa using designs from old English pattern books from the 19th Century and 20th Century American Mill Designs. The fabrics are stiff to the touch because in South Africa woman equate that to good quality. They do get very soft after you wash them. You can buy these fabrics from www.reproductionfabrics.com.

Not only are the fabrics manufactured by Da Gama beautiful, they also have a wonderful social impact. Da Gama is 45% owned by their employees thus giving them an opportunity to really improve their lives. They are taught skills that enable them to have a sustainable future! So by purchasing the beautiful Shwe Shwe (indigo) fabrics, you're supporting the social upliftment of people who really need it! You can also purchase Shwe Shwe fabrics from Marula Imports. Check us out at www.marulaimports.com!

It has been very hard to find Shweshwe in recent years. I have hoarded it whenever I could find it and finally decided to import it myself. I am excited to say that Quilted Indigo's first inventory is on its way and should arrive shortly. I will have 90 different designs including the beautiful chocolates and rich rich reds. Web site up soon! Until then, contact me at QuiltedIndigo@cox.net.
